Plagiarism Policy

JIESS: Jurnal Informatika, Elektro, Statistika, dan Sistem Informasi strictly prohibits all forms of academic dishonesty, including plagiarism, self-plagiarism, data fabrication, and redundant publication. We are committed to protecting the integrity of the scholarly record and maintaining high standards of academic ethics.

1. Definition of Plagiarism

Plagiarism occurs when an author attempts to pass off someone else’s work, ideas, words, data, or intellectual property as their own without proper acknowledgment or citation. This includes:

  • Copying entire sentences, paragraphs, sections, or figures from a source without quotation marks and proper citation.

  • Paraphrasing someone else's ideas or text by changing a few words or sentence structures without giving credit to the original author.

  • Self-Plagiarism: Reusing substantial portions of one's own previously published work without appropriate citation or permission from the original publisher.

2. Plagiarism Screening Procedure

To ensure the originality of every submission:

  • All manuscripts submitted to JIESS undergo a mandatory anti-plagiarism screening upon submission.

  • The journal utilizes reliable plagiarism detection software, primarily Turnitin.

  • Manuscripts must achieve a maximum similarity score of 20% overall, with no more than 2% similarity from a single individual source.

3. Consequences of Plagiarism

Depending on the severity and intent of the plagiarism detected during the screening or review process, the editorial board will take the following actions:

  • Minor Similarity (Below 20% but contains unformatted quotes): The manuscript is returned to the author before peer review for proper revision, re-paraphrasing, and correct citation formatting.

  • Moderate to Severe Plagiarism (Above 20%): The manuscript is immediately rejected, and the submitting author is formally notified.

  • Severe/Repeated Plagiarism or Intellectual Theft: If deliberate plagiarism or data falsification is discovered after publication, the article will be retracted immediately. A formal retraction notice will be published online, and the authors will be permanently banned from submitting future manuscripts to JIESS.

4. Author Responsibility

Authors are solely responsible for ensuring that their submitted work is entirely original, properly referenced, and free from any form of plagiarism. By submitting a manuscript to JIESS, authors explicitly agree to undergo automated and manual plagiarism screening.
